If you are shopping for a compact sedan under ₹10 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is probably on your list. The single most useful fact before you pick a variant: every Dzire, including the ₹6.31 lakh LXi, gets six airbags, ESP, hill hold assist and ISOFIX mounts as standard. You do not have to pay extra for the core safety kit, so the decision comes down to features, gearbox and fuel.
Maruti sells the Dzire in four trims (LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+) with manual, AMT and CNG options, for 11 versions in total. Below: prices, what each step up adds per Maruti’s brochure, the CNG and AMT premiums, and our pick.
Key takeaways
- Six airbags, ESP and rear parking sensors are standard on every variant.
- The base LXi has no music system or speakers at all.
- ZXi MT at ₹8.28 lakh is the sweet spot for most buyers.
- CNG costs ₹91,000 more than the same petrol manual and is not offered on the ZXi+.
Variant-wise price
These are the ex-showroom prices listed on Maruti Suzuki’s price-list page for the Dzire. The page does not name a city, and Maruti notes that the price on the day of invoice applies, so check with your dealer.
| Variant | Fuel / gearbox | Ex-showroom price |
|---|---|---|
| LXi | Petrol MT | ₹6,30,600 |
| VXi | Petrol MT | ₹7,27,100 |
| VXi AMT | Petrol AMT | ₹7,72,100 |
| VXi CNG | CNG MT | ₹8,18,100 |
| ZXi | Petrol MT | ₹8,27,700 |
| VXi CNG AGS | CNG AMT | ₹8,53,100 |
| ZXi AMT | Petrol AMT | ₹8,72,700 |
| ZXi+ | Petrol MT | ₹8,96,300 |
| ZXi CNG | CNG MT | ₹9,18,700 |
| ZXi+ AMT | Petrol AMT | ₹9,41,300 |
| ZXi CNG AGS | CNG AMT | ₹9,53,700 |
What each variant adds
LXi (₹6.31 lakh). You get the full safety pack: six airbags, ESP, hill hold, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX and three-point belts with reminders for all seats. Power windows on all four doors, remote keyless entry, a manual AC and projector headlamps are also here. What you do not get is any infotainment: no screen, no speakers, no steering controls, and you ride on 14-inch steel wheels.
VXi (₹96,500 more). This adds a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four speakers, steering-mounted controls, rear AC vents, a rear centre armrest, rear USB Type-A and Type-C charging, electrically adjustable and foldable mirrors, a height-adjustable driver seat and a day/night mirror. It is also the cheapest way into the AMT and CNG versions.
ZXi (₹1,00,600 more than VXi). The jump that changes how the car looks and feels. You get LED headlamps with LED DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, a wireless charger, push-button start with smart key, auto headlamps, a reverse camera, tyre pressure monitoring, two tweeters and Suzuki Connect telematics (stolen-vehicle tracking, geo-fence, trip data).
ZXi+ (₹68,600 more than ZXi). The 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ screen with Arkamys sound tuning, an electric sunroof, cruise control, a 360-degree HD camera, LED fog lamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a colour multi-info display, rear reading lamps and auto-folding mirrors.
If you drive a lot at night or on highways, the ZXi’s LED headlamps and TPMS are worth more in daily use than the ZXi+’s sunroof. Spend the ₹68,600 gap only if the 360 camera and cruise control matter to you.
Petrol, AMT or CNG?
All Dzires use the same 1,197cc three-cylinder Z12E engine. On petrol it makes 82.93 PS and 112.4 Nm; in CNG mode output drops to 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm, so expect it to feel slower with a full load. Maruti’s brochure lists these claimed efficiency figures: 25.15 km/l for the petrol manual, 26.13 km/l for the AMT, 35.63 km/kg for the CNG manual and 36.47 km/kg for the CNG AMT.
| Upgrade | Extra cost | Available on |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol MT to petrol AMT | ₹45,000 | VXi, ZXi, ZXi+ |
| Petrol MT to CNG MT | ₹91,000 | VXi, ZXi |
| CNG MT to CNG AMT | ₹35,000 | VXi, ZXi |
Going by the claimed figures, the AMT is slightly more frugal than the manual and the easy pick for city traffic. CNG makes sense if you drive a lot and have a filling station close by. The trade-off is boot space: Maruti quotes 382 litres for the petrol car and does not give a figure for the CNG version, since the cylinder sits in the boot.
The ZXi+ is petrol-only. If you want CNG, the ZXi CNG at ₹9.19 lakh is as far as you can go, which means no sunroof, 9-inch screen or 360 camera.
Safety rating
Bharat NCAP tested the Dzire LXi 1.2 manual. It scored 29.46 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 41.57 out of 49 for child occupant protection, which earned it five stars in both categories. The result applies to the LXi, VXi, ZXi, ZXi+ and Tour S manuals and the VXi, ZXi and ZXi+ AMTs. The CNG versions are not on that list.
Should you buy it?
What we like
- Six airbags and ESP on every variant
- Five-star Bharat NCAP rating for adults and children
- Claimed 25.15 km/l petrol and 35.63 km/kg CNG
- Rear AC vents from the VXi up
What could be better
- Base LXi has no audio system
- ZXi+ has no CNG option
- CNG versions are not covered by the Bharat NCAP result
The LXi is for buyers on a strict budget or fleet use, and you will want an aftermarket stereo. The VXi is fine value, especially as an AMT, but it still has halogen lamps and steel wheels. The ZXi is where the Dzire feels complete: LED lights, alloys, climate control, reverse camera and TPMS for ₹8.28 lakh. The ZXi+ is for those who want the sunroof and 360 camera.
Buy the ZXi manual, or the ZXi AMT if you drive mostly in traffic. If running cost is your priority, the VXi CNG at ₹8.18 lakh gets you the useful VXi kit with the cheapest fuel bills.
